2007 Shanghai Noon Summer BBQ Summary

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Last Sunday 9/16, it's the first time that SJTU, FuDan, TongJi, ECNU and ECUST, all five universities from Shanghai, hosted the 2007 Shanghai Noon summer BBQ party together. The party is much larger than last year. Over 300 alumni, family members and friends gathered in Mountain View, Rengstorff park and celebrated our summer reunion.

Recycle Bin - the famous local band with leading singer, Clara (our SJTU alumna) kicked off our party with "put your records on" and "in the waiting line". This live music instantly lighted our passion and joy. It even became so enjoyable while waiting in the line for the BBQ food. Presidents of all five alumni associations then gave address of welcome with James, our ceremony master. Consul Sheng, Yang, who also studied in Shanghai, gave us warmly VIP speech. The band continued its amazing performance with a few original songs - "foolish boy's love song", "memories of spring sky", "man's iron heart", "cry some times" and "in the dark".

A great variety of delicious food was served this year, including fresh fruits, grilled salmon, Korean BBQ beef and short ribs, sushi, baked chicken, chicken wings, hotdog, fried rice and noodles, chips, and salads. Year 2007's special item - BBQ lamb skewer is the No. 1 popular item. Chef Wang prepared 300 sticks with his secret recipe and cooked on-site one by one.

While we enjoyed our friendship, nice weather, inspiring music and delicious food, we had a full list of games and activities.

(1) The game started with water ball toss. Young mothers, kids and couples joined this game. Colorful water balls were flying in the air and broke into splashing water when the other side caught them carelessly. The winners can capture the ball in a distance of 10 meters away.

(2) The Water Melon Eating Competition again captured a lots of audience. Three rounds for alumni, one round for VIP guest and one round for kids. All were close matches.

(3) The newly added game - tied race brought a lot of fun to family and seriously tested team work between parents and kids.

(4) Here came the ultimate game - Tug War. It is more challenging this year with three teams together - Jiao Da, Fudan and Joint team from other 3 schools. Thanks to our Mr. Muscles and all cheerleaders. We won a very fierce and close game with Fudan and the follow-up games. Our team firmly held the "Pu Jian" cup again.

(5) Our annul BBQ party also became a feast for our next generation. For each above game, we added one more round especially for kids. They ate water melons, tossed water balls, joined tied race, pulled rope for tug war, hit the Pinata and won lovely gifts. It was so sweet to watch and share their happiness.

(6) 2007 Yu Lan Cup Volleyball Tournament started on the grassland next to our BBQ site. 6 teams played 11 games for more than 5 hours. In group games, Fudan-JiaoDa and Dida advanced from Group A; Fremont and Cnetwork advanced from Group B. After cross matchup, Fudan-JiaoDa and Fremont went into final. In the final, Fudan-JiaoDa beat Fremont with a very close match 2:1 and won the championship. Fremont won the second place. Cnetwork won the third place. Congratulations to the teams.

Thank you all volunteers!!!

Without each volunteer's leadership and contribution, we won't deliver so much in such a big party for five alumni associations and over 300 people. We have great teamwork with other four volunteer teams. Special thanks to our JiaoDa volunteers - the major team in the party. Over 24 JiaoDa volunteers took leadership in each task and helped in each corner even without having time to taste the food. Thank you James Jin, William Lu, Vicky Xu, Maggie Cai, Sean Yao, Xiaorui Wang, Hongbo Tang, Wei Zhong, Yu Zhang, Yufeng Wu, Jin Sun, Yu Wang, Mu Lin, Liang Zhao, Feng Lu, Weibin Xu, Haiqing Si, Jingcao Hu, Lan Kan, Eric Zhang, Jia Liu, Jiang Tong, Tracy, and many others I may miss here. Your contribution is the key to the success of our alumni association. We hope to have our volunteer teams grow faster.

Thanks Sean Yao for talking to each of our SJTU-SV alumni for the details of SJTU Planting a Tree donation and our plans for shared donation. He successfully raised four tress - four people per tree. For potential donators, please follow up with Sean (sean_yao@yahoo.com).
